Job Description

Position Summary

The Food Services Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the Distribution Center operation, care of the Community Life Building (CLB) and Production Kitchen, and facilitating functions in the Banquet Hall for Boys and Girls Country.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that quality food service is provided for staff and residents at Boys and Girls Country.

  • Responsible for efficient and effective Distribution Center operations including flexible shopping hours, time- and cost-effective items for menus, and consistently friendly service.

  • Responsible for requisitioning food supplies (including processed meats) and other merchandise necessary for meeting the needs of the food program.

  • Develop programs and systems to train and guide children during the Summer Apprentice Program according to needs.

  • Exercise cost control in food purchases and services in order to remain under budget quarterly.

  • Keep accurate and legible records of distribution of all food items in the Distribution Center.

  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and other household items for the cottages and keep accurate records of their distribution.

  • Maintain the appearance, organization, and cleanliness of the Distribution Center in compliance with regulations from the Harris County Health Department, USDA, and the Houston Food Bank, as well as Boys and Girls Country standards.

  • Work cooperatively with the Director of Operations and the Development Department to receive, document, and acknowledge food donations within 24–48 hours.

  • Coordinate and schedule food donation pick-ups, as needed.

  • Conduct end-of-month inventory and ensure proper storage of all food items.

  • Responsible for food preparation for special events and Summer Program lunch service.

  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and Community Life Building.

  • Set up and clean up for special activities/events in the Community Life Building as needed or assigned.

  • Complete checklists for each event setup and breakdown.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations, including, but not limited to:

    • Communicating with other team members who may be affected by decisions.

    • Supporting and assisting team members in their roles or during critical situations.

Teamwork

  • Support other members of the Operations team in their roles.

  • Provide skills, trades, or labor as needed for tasks.

  • Assist with the student work program to help teach kids new skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Technical & Job-Specific Skills:

  • Experience in food service management and kitchen operations

  • Inventory and stock management

  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance (e.g., Harris County Health Dept., USDA, Houston Food Bank)

  • Procurement and cost control experience

  • Event setup, coordination, and cleanup

  • Strong recordkeeping skills

  • Experience receiving and managing donations

Interpersonal & Leadership Skills:

  • Effective communication and collaboration across departments

  • Customer service mindset with a positive, friendly attitude

  • Ability to lead and mentor youth in programs

  • Willingness to support and assist teammates

Organizational & Physical Skills:

  • Highly organized in fast-paced environments

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously

  • Capable of lifting 40–50 pounds

  • Strong attention to detail

Certifications & Clearances:

  • Must pass a criminal background check and FBI fingerprinting

  • Must pass a drug screening and TB test

  • Must hold (or be willing to acquire) a valid Food Safety Certificate (e.g., Serve Safe)

  • Must complete Boys and Girls Country orientation and pre-service training
