Job Title: Grants Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: The Grants Manager is a key member of the Development team at Covenant House Texas, supporting the mission of giving youth experiencing homelessness a safe haven, absolute respect, unconditional love, and a path to lasting independence, by overseeing the full lifecycle of foundation and corporate grants. This position is responsible for researching funding opportunities, developing high-quality proposals, managing reporting requirements, and ensuring compliance with funder guidelines. The Grants Manager partners with program, finance, and leadership staff to secure resources that support housing, outreach, and supportive services for youth experiencing homelessness.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Lead the planning and execution of the organization’s annual grants strategy, ensuring alignment with funding priorities and revenue goals.
  • Identify, research, and evaluate prospective grant opportunities from foundations and corporations.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with grant funders, including foundations and corporate partners.
  • Write compelling, mission-aligned grant proposals and letters of inquiry that clearly communicate program impact, goals, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with program and finance teams to develop budgets, outcome metrics, and narratives for proposals and renewals.
  • Manage all grant reporting, including progress reports and financial documentation, ensuring timely submission and funder compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of grants, deadlines, and deliverables in the organization’s donor database/CRM.
  • Support Development leadership in preparing materials for site visits, funder meetings, and impact presentations.
  • Work closely with program, finance, and data teams to collect and analyze impact data, ensuring accurate reporting and storytelling.
  • Develop and implement internal processes to ensure alignment between grant proposals and program execution, ensuring that all commitments made to funders are fulfilled.
  • Act as a liaison attending information sessions, RFP meetings or other community forums to interact and build relationships and provide advocacy that informs funding strategies with funders and collaborative partners.
  • Support strategic planning around funding diversification and new strategic initiatives.
  • Achieve the annual goals (budget targets) for private sector grant funding.
  • Other duties as assigned.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, public policy, or related field; or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE:
  • 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit grant writing, fundraising, or related development work (youth services or homelessness services preferred).
  • Proven track record of securing foundation or corporate grants.


SKILLS:

  • The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft persuasive proposals and compelling reports.
  • They must be highly organized and capable of managing multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of funding sources, opportunities, and procedures preferred, as well as an ability to successfully develop and cultivate relationships.
  • This candidate will also possess strong attention to detail and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in with Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
  • A strong commitment to the mission of ending youth homelessness and serving marginalized communities is fundamental to success in this role.


TRANSPORTATION: Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • General business/office environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion, bend, sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Some weekend/holiday work may be required.
  • Full-Time 40 hours per week.

Covenant House Texas (CHT) opened its doors in 1983 to provide shelter for homeless, abused and abandoned youth ages 18 – 24. After more than 35 years of service, CHT offers an extensive continuum of care model for homeless youth including mental health and substance abuse counseling, educational and vocational training, transitional and permanent living programs, street outreach and prevention, pastoral ministry and parenting classes in addition to providing the basic necessities of food, clothing, medical care and safe shelter from the streets for youth in crisis.
